Places visited - Rohtang pass, Solang valley, Hidamba temple, Club house, Vashisht temple, Naggar Castle, Tibetan monastry, Mall road, Manali nature park.

Total distance travelled Delhi - Manali - Delhi - 1310kms

A long weekend and it was time for a hillstation tour as the heat and humidity in Delhi was unbearable this August 2009. As to all hillstations nearby were ventured many a time we had to check out a new place, yes this time it was Manali. Club Mahindra gave us the facility for a 3 day halt at Club Mahindra Snow Peaks with the necessary guidance.

Finally 13th Aug before that day dawned at 4.15am we were out in our monster but were greeted by an unwelcome traffic jam (truck jams due to road tar work) at Naraina. It was going to be an adventerous trip for us because

Himachal was a less explored place for us
A journey of 584 kms a single day
Praying to see the Rohtang pass (13,050ft) without a traffic jam or landslide as its monsoons.
The change in nature and climate all the way from Delhi to Manali
Hill drive of more than 200+ kms from Swarghat to Manali

After the Delhi border our Safari just roared through Panipat, (flyover open) Karnal, Raipur, Ambala and so on. The milestones just flew past. Took a breakfast break at Gurubaksh Dhaba after Ghanauli and went on till Swarghat where the nature turned really beautiful with mountains and valleys, just greenery all around, clouds floating along the mountains like soft balls of cotton and River Beas on your right meandering through the montain ranges like a silver streak. One has to really keep your eyes on road direction boards and signs to avoid getting lost.

Once on the mountains climbing and descenting we felt kms crawl but our exictrment and nature's beauty kept us going. Mandi break filled our fuel tank and the Pandoh dam was worth a watch. Aut is a memorable place due to the 3kms tunnel.

At around 3pm we reached Cafe Beas View which has chairs on the Beas river side where we had a few photograph clicks and took light refreshments. Onward journey was through Naggar which is the alternate route to avoid the Manali town traffic. Just ensure your hotel is on which side, the Naggar side or in Manali town.
